Muskoka
Change of Seasons

There are numerous full-colour books of Muskoka photographs on the market, but this one is the first to our knowledge to feature the images of a long-time, year-round Muskoka resident, and also the first to give priority to the splendid scenery in the northeastern highlands of the district, an area invariably neglected in favour of the Muskoka Lakes region.

A resident of Huntsville from the 1960s until his death in 2004, Dr. Norris E. “Joe” Hunt had a special appreciation for the beauty of the area, and a superb eye for colour, composition, and subject matter. The result is 90 photographs selected from his large collection on the theme of the changing scenery and activities through the seasons.

A Muskoka book wouldn’t be a Muskoka book without a gleaming mahogony launch and the steamship Segwun — and you’ll find both in Muskoka: Change of Seasons — but the selection overall is refreshingly different from the typical mix.

Dr. Hunt generously donated the funds necessary to publish this book to the Town of Huntsville, under whose auspicies it was printed to allow others to share in the beauty of the region. Revenue from the sale of the book helps support the Town’s efforts to document and preserve local heritage.
